Upgrading of Staudinger Site
New construction of a highly efficient hard coal fired power station as substitute for old plants
The Staudinger power station in Großkrotzenburg is one of the highest output plants of E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH and the largest conventional power station in Hessen. Three old hard coal fired power stations (blocks 1-3) are here to be replaced by a new, highly efficient hard coal fired power station (block 6).
With an electrical output of 1,100 MW (gross) and a net efficiency of more than 45 percent, the planned block 6 is setting new standards in the use of hard coal for the generation of electric energy. Thanks to its high energy efficiency, the new power station will discharge 20 percent less CO2 per generated kilowatt hour than its predecessors. The latest technology for flue gas purification will also contribute to making this power station foremost in the world. So as to in addition make a contribution towards environmental and climate protection, it is intended to extract up to 300 MW district heating.
The new power station is implemented as joint venture power station of E.ON Kraftwerke and the municipal utility of Hanover (participation of the municipal utility: 25.2 percent). Start-up is planned for the year 2013.
