The new combined cycle power station in Lubmin
Company
E.ON Kraftwerke avails of extensive experience in the construction and operation of state-of-the-art conventional power stations.
With this background, the company is now planning the construction of a combined cycle power station in Lubmin as a joint venture with the Russian energy provider Gazprom.
Region
Lubmin, in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, was formerly the site of a nuclear power station that generated power until it was decommissioned in 1990. A few of the eight blocks had been in operation since 1967. Three of the blocks were still under construction when the station was decommissioned.
Power station
With the aim of constructing a combined cycle power station with an output of 1200 megawatts, E.ON Kraftwerke and Gazprom plan to jointly establish a development company with a 50 percent share each. The commissioning of the power station is directly connected with the construction of the Baltic Sea Pipeline that is to supply the power station with natural gas. A final decision on the investment is expected in 2009.
