Coal and gas – an important part of the energy mix
In order to ensure a reliable and economic power generation, the use of a broad energy mix is indispensable. Part of the energy mix are the energy sources coal, gas and oil, renewable energies such as wind, hydraulic power and biomass as well as nuclear energy. The fossil energy sources are very important within this mix. With a share of more than 50 percent in Europe’s power supply, coal and gas power stations constitute the backbone of power generation – now and also in the future. Renewable energies as sole energy source would not be able to satisfy the power requirement.
E.ON Kraftwerke are therefore currently planning the new construction of several coal fired as well as combined cycle power plants in Europe.
